The Moat

Pre-Prep Facility for Hereford Cathedral School. The scheme comprises nine classrooms linked by an internal glazed street all hidden beneath a grass roof. As the name suggests the building is located in the original Castle moat sandwiched between Grade II & Grade II* Listed buildings and a Scheduled Ancient Monument.

By exploiting the change in levels between Castle Street and Redcliffe Gardens it was possible to insert a subtle yet light-filled teaching block without disturbing the equilibrium of this most sensitive of historic locations.
